Singapore Invasion

It has been 3 months since I left London and I have been looking forward to Lubos' visit. Singapore is a small country but there are a lot of things to do and places to visit. For Lubos' first visit in Southeast Asia, I made sure that we made the most out of it.

What: Lubos' first visit in Southeast Asia
Where: all over Singapore
When: April 6-16, 2012

When in Singapore...
  • Eat, eat, and eat. We tried everything (almost) - chicken rice, char kway teow, chili crab, bak kut teh, sting ray, economy rice, kaya toast, BBQ chicken wings, teh tarik, satay, nasi lemak, congee, dumplings, noodles, crispy pata, sisig...I could go on and on. However, we couldn't be bothered to take photos while having our meals.

Yes, we had good ol' fried chicken too. :D
  • Explore the Botanic Gardens. Don't miss the Mist and Cool Houses while at the National Orchid Garden.

  • Offer a prayer to the Protectors (of your Lunar Zodiac Animal) at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and go barefoot at the Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore's oldest Hindu Temple.

  • Ride the cable car. Buy a return ticket: leave when there's daylight and return at night time.

  • Go to Universal Studios  on a non-peak day to avoid long queues and get on 2 consecutive rides at the Battlestar Gallactica (or until you feel queasy)

  • Visit the Singapore Zoo and play at the Science Center with lovely Slovak-Czech family friends. Again, we couldn't be bothered to take photos while playing.

They have been "asianified". :)
  • From amusement parks to nature parks, trek at MacRitchie Reservoir Park and make sure to reach the Treetop walk before 5PM. With one failed attempt, head to the Hort Park for the Canopy Walk. (Oh and remember: Don't feed the monkeys!)

My brother and I in our "trekking" attire.

  • Venture beyond the main island and Sentosa. Take the ferry to the outlying islands - St. John and Kusu.

  • Try to discover the hidden and rustic spots of the country. And be pleasantly surprised to find nature's simplicity and charm beyond the hustle and bustle of Singapore's urban jungle.
